Parkside Drops Game One to GVSU

Allendale, MI - In the first game of four, the Parkside Rangers suffered defeat against the Grand Valley State Lakers. The Lakers took an early lead and rode it all the way towards a 10-1 victory.

How it happened:
After both teams were held scoreless in the first inning of the game, the Lakers high powered offense went to work in the second inning. They struck for three runs on four hits in the frame alone and possessed a 3-0 lead after two innings of baseball.

In the third inning, Joe Hoeks led the inning off with a base hit. After he was moved over to second on a bunt, Hoeks came around and scored the only Ranger run after Angel Rades reached on an error.

The issue for Parkside in the game was their inability to produce any offense after that point. In fact, the team reached on just two more hits for the rest of the ballgame.

Grand Valley State had their foot on the gas, scoring a pair of runs in the fifth inning to extend their lead. However, the biggest blow of the game came in the seventh inning. On top of four hits, including two home runs, the Lakers crossed five runs in the inning and stretched their lead to 10-1.

Despite allowing double figures, Parkside saw solid performances on the mound from Benje Hencke and Luis Gonzalez. Hencke dealt two innings of one run baseball and even included a punch out in the process. Gonzalez had a one-two-three frame with a strike out as well.
