Parkside Splits DH with GVSU, Dominates First Game

Allendale, MI - In the second and third games of the four game set between the Parkside Rangers and the Grand Valley State Lakers, the ball clubs split the double header on Saturday. In game one, Parkside dominated behind an offensive explosion, winning 13-2. In the night cap, Grand Valley State shut Parkside out, and won 3-0.

GAME ONE
In the first game of two, Parkside rode the momentum of a few long balls to get their offense going. The Rangers posted their highest run total of the season in a GLIAC game. Aside from scoring the 13 runs, Parkside got yet another solid start in GLIAC play from Kaleb Schulist and Leo Burger had his best appearance yet.

Parkside wasted no time putting the pressure on Grand Valley State pitching. In the second inning, the Rangers loaded up the bases for Camden Kearney. Kearney smoked a grand slam over the right field fence to boost the Rangers ahead, 4-0. It was the first home run of Kearney's career.

That was just the beginning for the Rangers, they scored four more runs in the sixth inning. Angel Rades began the scoring barrage, smoking a base hit into center field, scoring Joe Hoeks. A few hitters later, Andrew Harris stepped up and ripped a three-run home run way over the right field wall. Harris' Parkside best fourth home run blew the game open, 9-2.

The Rangers struck for four more runs in the seventh inning. Owen Brock started the inning with his third hit of the game, and Joe Hoeks drove him home on a double. Rades collected his second RBI on an in-field single, and the Rangers scored two more on RBI walks completing a 13 run performance.

On the mound, Kaleb Schulist once again dealt an impressive outing and got his fourth win of the season. He lasted four and a third, allowing just one earned run, and he struck out two. Leo Burger followed up with his best outing as a Ranger. The freshman was dominant, striking out seven hitters through two and two-thirds of work, not allowing a single hit. He earned his first collegiate save.

With the win, Parkside improved to 13-14 overall and 2-7 in GLIAC play.

GAME TWO
In the second game, Parkside pitching shined but were unable to get a victory. Their offense was shut down and the team collected just one singular hit the entire ball game.

A pair of freshmen shined bright in the game, holding a powerful Grand Valley State team to just three total runs. Donovan Dykas got his second start against the Lakers this season and lasted six strong innings. He allowed just two hits, one earned run, and he struck out four hitters in the process.

Austin Grube picked up where Dykas left off in the seventh inning, and carried the momentum through the rest of the game. He pitched two scoreless innings with no walks and recorded two punchouts.

However, the Rangers collected just one hit and struck out 13 times in the game. With that being said, the Lakers secured a 3-0 win. The Rangers dropped to 13-15 overall and 2-8 in GLIAC play.
