Softball Picks up Split in Wild Home Finale

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Parkside softball team played in their final home games of the 2024 season on Friday afternoon. The Rangers squared off with the Davenport Panthers in GLIAC doubleheader action. The Rangers took game one in an impressive 8-0 win in five innings. The craziness game in game two where the Panthers picked up the 15-12 win in a true barn burner.

Game One
Olivia Masnica got the start in the circle for game one for Parkside. She pitched a true gem for the Rangers, going all five innings and allowing just one Panther hit. She also added four strike outs on the way to her eight victory of the season.

The Rangers got the offense going early by scoring three runs in the first inning. All three runs came from the bat of Mia Johnson as she would club her eighth home run of the season. Her hot streak continues as she now slides into a tie for first place in the conference for home runs. Her long ball would give the Rangers the early 3-0 advantage after the first inning of play.

Parkside would tack on two more runs in the following inning. A Cassie Rutledge double would score the first run. Rutledge has now collect 17 extra base hits on the season. Haley Remingoton would add on to the lead with a single up the middle to give Parkside the 5-0 lead.

Davenport would hold the Rangers scoreless in the third inning, but not in the fourth. Megan Medlin would rip a double to right center field to score another Ranger run to add to the lead to make it 6-0.

The game would end in walk off run rule fashion. A CiCi De Silvio single up the middle would score one Ranger run and set the table to Mia Johnson to walk off the game. Johnson would laser a single to score the game winning run. Johnson finished a perfect 3-3 in game one with four RBIs.

Game Two
The second game of the twin bill featured a back and forth battle that favored the offense. The Panthers started the chaos in the first inning by crossing three runs on a home run.

The Rangers immediately got to work, putting together a six run inning in the bottom of the first. Rylee Baetz got the inning started with a solo home run, her third of the season. Remington kept it going with a two RBI double to right center field. It was a double party from there, as Toni Rodriguez and Taylor Delgado would each notch a double with Rodriguez's scoring one run and Delgado's scoring two. Every Ranger run in the first inning would come as a result of an extra base hit as Parkside claimed their first lead of the game 6-3.

Parkside would blank the Panthers in the top half of the second, while taking advantage of a fielding error in the bottom half of the inning to add to their lead and make the score 7-4.

Davenport would put together a five run third inning on just four hits. They would retake the lead 8-7. In the Rangers half of the third they would plate four runs of their own. Haley Remington would start the scoring by sending a ball down the left field line to score two runs as she would collect her second double of the game. Rodriguez would get the job done to collect an RBI on a ground out. Remington would round out the scoring as she would break for home on the wild pitch and slide in safely to give the Rangers the 11-8 lead.

Davenport would hit a solo home run in the fourth inning to edge closer 11-9. The Rangers would plate another run by taking advantage of a Panther fielding error in the bottom half of the inning to give themselves an insurance run and lead 12-9.

The Panthers would tie the game at 12 a piece in the fifth inning and hold the Rangers scoreless in the home half of the inning. With momentum on their side, Davenport would push across three runs in the sixth inning to take the 15-12 lead. They wouldn't look back as they would shutout the Rangers in the final two innings of play to seal the 15-12 victory.
