Rangers Drop Second Half of Maryville Series

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The Parkside softball team played the second half of a four game series on Sunday afternoon. The Rangers tried to mount a comeback in both games, but dropped both in a 2-1 scoreline for game one and a 6-5 scoreline in game two.

Game One
KC Shickel would start in the circle for the Rangers. She would throw six innings, allowing just two runs on six hits while striking out four Saints. Cassie Rutledge continued to stay hot, going 2-3 in game one.

The Saints would strike first in the low scoring affair as they would put up one run in the second inning. They would add an insurance run in the fifth inning to make the score 2-0.

The Rangers would look to complete a late game comeback in the seventh inning. Haley Remington would lead off for the Rangers with triple and would set the plate for Mia Johnson. Johnson would double to left center to score Remington to bring the score to 2-1. The Rangers wouldn't be able to push any more runs across and would fall 2-1.

Game Two
Shelly Deisz and Olivia Masnica would combine to throw for the Rangers, Deisz with the start and Masnica coming on in releif. Between the two they would allow nine hits and strike out just one. Mia Johnson would swing the hot bat for the Rangers in game two, going 4-4 with a run scored.

The first three and a half innings would be scorless between the two sides until Maryville would score one run in the bottom of the fourth inning.

Parkside would respond in the top of the fifth inning. Kate Harrison would lead off the inning with a walk. She would move into scoring position thanks to the Rangers executing small ball. Remington would triple again to score Harrison to knot things up at 1-1.

Maryville would push two runs across in response in the bottom of the fifth inning. The Rangers would respond with a run of their own in the top of the sixth as Johnson would score on the Saints only error of the game.

The Saints would grow their lead to 6-2 heading into the top of the seventh inning. The Rangers would look to complete the late game heroics. They would push across three runs on four hits. The Rangers would strand three runners on base in the final inning of play.
