DETROIT, Mich. – The Parkside softball team returned to action on Saturday afternoon. The Rangers squared off with Wayne State as they fell in both games of the doubleheader. Parkside dropped game one in a 9-7 scoreline and fell in game two in a 11-7 decision.
Game One
Parkside would strike in the top half of the first inning of game one as
Haley Remington would knock a double down the left field line to score the first run of the game. The Rangers would hold a 1-0 lead heading into the bottom half of the first inning.
The Warriors answered immediately in the bottom half of the first inning, plating five runs on four hits to take the 5-1 lead. They went on to add another two runs in the second inning, stretching their lead to 7-1.
The Rangers battled back in the top of the third inning, pushing four runs across on three hits and taking advantage of a Warrior fielding error.
Rylee Baetz led the third inning offensive charge with a two RBI single. Parkside had cut into the Warrior lead significantly 7-5.
Both sides would trade blows in the bottom half of the third and top half of the fourth. Each team would plate a run in their respective offensive appearances, making the score 8-6 still in favor of the Warriors.
Parkside wasn't finished yet. They would plate another run in the top half of the sixth inning on a
Mia Johnson single down the right field line. The Warriors would hold the slim 8-7 lead. Wayne State would add an insurance run in the bottom half of the sixth and never look back as they would secure the 9-7 win in game one.
Game Two
Wayne State would get on the board first in game two. A one out second inning single would give the Warriors the 1-0 lead.
The Rangers would enter the top of the third inning down just a run.
Cassie Rutledge would triple to score
Taylor Delgado to score the Rangers first run of the game. Remington would knock Rutledge in with a single up the middle. Johnson would step up to the plate and hit her second homerun of the season to score two more for the Rangers. Parkside would lead 4-1 heading into the home half of the third.
The Warriors responded immediately, scoring two runs of their own to cut into the Ranger lead 4-3. Wayne State's offense would be on full display in the fourth inning, as they would produce six runs on five hits to take the lead 9-4.
Wayne State would tack on two more runs in the sixth inning to make the score 11-4. Parkside looked to make things work with just three outs remaining in the top half of the seventh.
Taylor Utrata,
Tia Livernash, and
Meagan Maza would all come up with RBI base knocks in the inning but it wouldn't be enough to overcome the deficit as the Warriors took game two 11-7.
