Preview: Softball to Open GLIAC Play This Weekend on the Road

KENOSHA, Wis – The Parkside softball team is finally set for action after rainy weather postponed several contests for the team. The Rangers are now set to open GLIAC play this weekend, squaring off against Saginaw Valley State on Friday in University Center. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. EDT. The Rangers will then head to Detroit on Saturday to take on Wayne State to round out the GLIAC opening weekend. First pitch of the doubleheader between the Warriors and Rangers is set for 1 p.m. EDT. Coverage for both games can be accessed at ParksideRangers.com/coverage.
 
Saginaw Valley State
The Cardinals enter Friday's doubleheader with a 14-11 overall record, having split their GLIAC opener with Ferris State on Monday.
SVSU's offense is led by a freshman in Ella Reifschneider as she enters Friday's action batting .426 so far this season. She has also drawn a team high 18 walks and has swiped a second best nine bases. Pitching wise the Cardinals have two players that carry the weight evenly. Alyssa Muench has thrown the most, totaling 47 innings of work so far this season with a 3.87 ERA while striking out 57 batters.
 
Series History
SVSU leads the overall series 19-4. The last Ranger win dates back to April of 2021 when they topped the Cardinals in a close 5-4 victory.
 
Wayne State
The Warriors are set to open their GLIAC slate on Friday against Purdue Northwest before taking on the Rangers on Saturday. Wayne State enters the weekend with a 8-13 record, having dropped their last four games.
Rylie Josephson has been leading the Warriors offensive charge so far this season. Through non conference play the junior is swinging an average of .390 through 59 at bats. She has a team leading 23 hits, seven of which have gone for extra bases. Sydney Long has seen the most success in the circle so far this year for the Warriors. She carries a 4-6 overall record while appearing in 12 games this season. She's tossed a team leading 71 innings while striking out 45 batters while carrying a team best 3.15 ERA.
 
Series History
The overall series currently sits in favor of the Warriors, 15-10. Last year's series between the two sides was an even 2-2 split.
