Kenosha, Wis - In their second conference doubleheader of the season, the Parkside Rangers dropped both games to the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals on Monday. In game one, Parkside mounted a comeback but fell short, losing 14-6. SVSU dominated the second game, holding a commanding 27-4 lead in a contest that will be resumed later this season.
GAME ONE
Despite falling to SVSU, Parkside put together a four-run comeback in the fourth inning to tie the game. After scoring just three runs on Saturday, Parkside's offense came alive in game one. However, Parkside's pitching struggled, walking 14 batters in the game and ultimately losing by eight runs.
The Rangers struck in the first inning and grabbed an early lead. After a two-out double by Andrew Harris, he scored on an RBI double by Owen Brock, putting Parkside ahead 1-0 after the opening inning.
After SVSU grabbed the lead with three runs in the second and third innings, Peter Fusek helped the cause with an RBI double into the left-center gap, scoring Angel Rades, who reached base twice and scored twice in the game. Parkside was still facing an uphill battle, trailing 3-2.
SVSU's offense continued to press. They scored three runs in the top of the fourth inning, extending their lead to 6-2. However, Parkside responded strongly. Jude Allen, stepping off the bench with two on and two outs, hit a two-run double down the right field line, bringing Parkside within two runs, 6-4.
Parkside continued to rally as Angel Rades followed Allen with an RBI double of his own. Next, Peter Fusek reached on an infield RBI single, scoring Rades from second base. Parkside tied the game at 6-6 in the fourth inning.
Despite Parkside's efforts, SVSU continued to dominate, scoring five runs in the fifth inning and three more in the top of the seventh, ultimately winning the game 14-6. Parkside suffered their third straight loss.
GAME TWO
SVSU took control of the second game with a powerful offensive performance, scoring 27 runs on 25 hits. The game was suspended in the ninth inning due to weather and will be completed on (5/3/24) at Saginaw Valley State.
After two scoreless innings, SVSU erupted in the third, scoring five runs and taking an early lead. Parkside responded in the bottom half of the third, as Andrew Harris remained hot, hitting an RBI single into right field that scored Joe Hoeks and got Parkside on the board.
SVSU added four runs in the fourth inning and a staggering 11 runs in the fifth, collecting 13 hits in the fifth inning alone. They led 20-1 after the fifth inning.
Parkside managed to score a few runs in the sixth inning with RBI walks from Joe Hoeks and Ryan McGonegle. In the seventh inning, Jude Allen added another RBI hit, driving home Camden Kearney with a single to right field.
The game was suspended in the ninth inning with the bases loaded for SVSU and a 27-4 lead. It will resume later in the season when Parkside visits SVSU for the second half of their season series. Parkside is currently 11-10 on the season and 0-3 in GLIAC play, having lost three straight games.
