Parkside Splits Doubleheader Against William Jewell

LIBERTY, Mo. – The Parkside Rangers, fresh off a doubleheader victory in the day previous, took on William Jewell College in another doubleheader on Wednesday. The Rangers dropped the first game 5-3. Parkside bounced back in game two, winning 4-3.

Game One
KC Shickel started on the mound for the Rangers in game one. Shickel would throw 2.2 innings with a strikeout to her tally. Hope Maes came on in relief, tossing the final 3.1 innings. Maes was stellar, allowing just two hits as she would blank the Cardinals offense in the effort. CICI Di Silvio had a strong showing at the plate in game one. The Freshman accounted for two RBIs while going 2-3 in the game.

The Cardinals struck early as they would jump out to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Parkside would find an answer in the following half inning as Di Silvio would drive in a run with a single through the right side of the infield. The Rangers would cut into the Cardinal lead, 3-1.

William Jewel would tack on two more runs in the bottom half of the third inning. Their lead would expand to 5-1.

Parkside answered, pushing a run across in both the fourth and fifth inning. That's all JWC would allow the Rangers to score as they would come up empty in the final two inning as the score would end in favor of William Jewell, 5-3.

Game Two
Olivia Masnica would once again get the start in the circle, coming off a her fourth win of the season just the day before. Masnica would have a strong showing on the mound, going the full seven innings and picking up her fifth win of the season.

The Rangers would draw first blood in the opening inning of game two. Taylor Delgado would reach on a solid single to center field. She would steal second and tag on a fly ball to be standing on third base. Haley Remington did the rest, putting the ball in play to score Delgado and give the Rangers the early 1-0 lead.

Hungry for more, the Rangers kept pushing in the top half of the third inning. Parkside would plate two more runs. Once again it was Remington collecting another RBI, knocking a single to score Cassie Rutledge. Remington would stand on second base and score on a William Jewell fielding error to make the score 3-0 in favor of the Rangers.

William Jewell would get on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Cardinals would put the pressure on the Rangers as they would score two runs in the inning and were vying for more. With just one out and runners on second and third, Masnica would brilliantly pitch out of the bind, getting a key strikeout and fly out to end the inning. Parkside would still hold the lead, 3-2.

Parkside would tack on one more run in the top of the seventh, which would prove to be critical. Mia Johnson would single to right field to bring in a Ranger run to add to the lead,4-2.
In the bottom half of the seventh the Cardinals kept it interesting. They would cut the Parkside lead to one, but the Ranger defense would not break as they held on to win 4-3.
