Bolivar, MO - The Parkside Rangers snapped a three-game losing streak with a huge win over the Southwest Baptist Bearcats on Friday night. The Rangers recorded 11 hits and held the Bearcats to just three. Parkside won game one of the three-game series 12-3.
How it happened:
The Rangers sent out freshman Nathan Ciemny for his first collegiate start on the mound. Although Ciemny surrendered a first inning run, he was able to settle in and find himself in a groove. He provided four innings of work, allowing just the one run. He added four punch outs to his resume as well, giving Parkside a great chance to win the ballgame.
The scoring started early and often for the Rangers. Brock began the fun with a long ball in the second inning. Brock smoked it over the left field fence for his second home run of his Parkside career.
Parkside crossed three more runs in the inning with RBI's from Jared Heinzen, John Wubben, and Peter Fusek. In all, it was a four-run frame for the Rangers and they were out to a 4-1 lead after two innings.
Kaleb Schulist was the first pitcher out of the bullpen for the Rangers. He picked up duty in the fifth inning and dealt his best outing yet. Schulist tossed three-innings, striking out six total hitters. In the process, the offense continued to roll. In the sixth, Angel Rades ripped a base hit into left field that got by the left fielder. With the bases loaded, all three-runs came around to score. Parkside had their biggest inning in the frame, crossing five-runs.
As Schulist continued his success on the rubber, John St. Clair joined in on the fun. St. Clair picked up his team best, 10th and 11th RBI's of the season, on a two-run base hit in the seventh inning. Parkside led 12-3 after seven innings of baseball.
Leo Burger entered in the eighth inning and finished the job. He got the final six outs of the games and struck out a pair of hitters in the process.
