MARQUETTE, Mich. --- The Parkside women's basketball team hit the road for a trip to the upper peninsula on Thursday evening, taking on the Northern Michigan Wildcats. The Rangers trailed by just one at the end of the first half, but a big Wildcat third quarter was too much for Parkside to overcome, falling by a 71-60 final score.

- Fresh off a double-double performance, Sheridan Flauger nearly recorded another, scoring 14 points and ripping down eight boards.
- Chloe Van Zeeland had ten points on 4-7 shooting.
- Parkside struggled in the second half, shooting just 25% (9-36) from the field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Parkside came storming out of the gate, getting threes by Flauger and Van Zeeland to take an 8-2 lead. The Rangers led 10-4 with 2:45 to go in the quarter and were able to get one final bucket from Flauger to give Parkside a 12-10 lead at the end of the first. Flauger had seven of the Rangers' 12 points in the quarter.

Northern Michigan opened the second quarter on an 11-1 run to build a 21-13 lead. Van Zeeland finally broke the run with a layup with 7:19 to go in the quarter. The Wildcats were able to keep their lead at six for most of the quarter, but a layup by
Cassidy Arni and a fastbreak layup by
Paty Gallasova pulled Parkside within 30-28 with 2:13 to go in the quarter. The Wildcats had an answer to expand the lead back to four, but Flauger was able to knock down a three with just seconds remaining to pull Parkside within 34-33 at the half.

Flauger had 13 of her 14 points in the first quarter as Parkside shot 46.4% (13-28) from the field. The Rangers held Northern Michigan to just 28.6% (10-35) from the floor in the half. The difference was ten Wildcats points from eight Ranger turnovers.

The two sides went back and forth in the early part of the third quarter, with Parkside tying the game at 43 on a Van Zeeland three with 2:38 to go in the period. However, Northern Michigan closed the quarter on a 9-0 run to extend their lead back out to 54-43 at the end of three quarters.

The Wildcats lead ballooned to double digits to open the quarter, reaching as many as 15 points. Parkside could not mount a comeback, falling by a final score of 71-60.
