Kansas City, MO - The Parkside Rangers opened the 2024 season by spitting a doubleheader against Rockhurst. The teams freshman and newcomers led the way both offensively and defensively. Parkside lost the first game 8-7 in eight innings. In the nightcap, Parkside got their revenge and took down Rockhurst 7-1.
GAME ONE
Despite an impressive offensive display, Parkside was walked-off in their season opener in extra innings. Parkside registered 10 hits and plated seven runs in the eight innings of baseball.Â
Noah Gerritson got the start on the rubber for the Rangers and had a solid outing. He dealt four innings of work and punched out six hitters. Gerritson allowed three runs with only two of them being earned. Freshman, John St. Clair, got the scoring started for Parkside. He drove in Angel Rades on an RBI double into the right center gap.Â
Owen Brock stepped up to the dish and cranked his first homerun of his Parkside career in the sixth inning. Brock tied the game at three with the solo blast.Â
Parkside took a three-run lead into the seventh inning, but surrendered three runs and the game was sent into extra innings. Parkside took the lead after Peter Fusek smoked a triple. Fusek then scored on a wild pitch and gave the Rangers a 7-6 lead. Rockhurst rallied in the bottom half of the eighth, and walked Parkside off 8-7.Â
GAME TWO
After facing defeat in game one, Parkside bounced back behind an impressive effort on the mound. In his first collegiate start, Donovan Dykas displayed nothing short of dominance and consistency. Dykas tossed six innings of scoreless baseball before allowing his first earned run in the seventh. He struck out four batters and gave up just four hits.Â
Parkside's offense once again showed up. John St. Clair had a tremendous debut for the Rangers, tallying two more hits and four more RBI's in the second game. He slammed a two-run double in the fifth inning.Â
Carter Storti and Andrew Harris both notched multi-hit games in the victory. Storti struck again in the sixth inning, adding some late inning insurance with an RBI single.Â
