Rangers Split Final Two Games of Season Opening Series Against Rockhurst

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Parkside baseball team played second half of their season opening four game series against Rockhurst on Monday afternoon. The Rangers would drop the first game of the day 5-3 but bounce back to take game two 7-2. The Rangers finish the series going 2-2 in the four games played.

GAME ONE
Parker Swanson would get the start on the bump for the Rangers. Parkside would throw three different pitchers in the game in Swanson, Maguire Delagrave, and Kaleb Schulist. The three would combine for seven strike outs on the day. Andrew Harris would lead the offensive charge for the Rangers, going 3-4 from the plate with a RBI double to his tally.

The opening frame of play would be a tough one for the Rangers as they would allow three Rockhurst runs to come across the plate. They would tack on a fourth run in the second inning on a single to center field. Rockhurst would lead 4-0 after the first two frames of play.

The Rangers would respond in the top of the third as an Owen Brock fly out to right field would be deep enough to allow Peter Fusek to score on the sacrifice fly.

No runs would cross the plate again until the fifth inning when Andrew Harris sent the ball into the right center gap for a RBI double. Later in the inning Emanuel Andjuar-Ferreira would drive in a run with bases loaded on a second base to pitcher putout at first base. Andjuar Ferreira's RBI would bring the Rangers within one run, 4-3.

The Hawks would deliver the dagger in the bottom of the fifth inning on a single to centerfield scoring Rockhurst's fifth run of the game and extending their lead to 5-3. The Rangers offense couldn't produce the two runs needed to push the game to extras in the final two innings of play.

GAME TWO
Much like the night before the, Rangers would look to bounce back in game number two. The Rangers pitching staff would shine as five different Rangers would appear on the mound in the game allowing just two runs. Kyler Kennen would be credited with the win in 2.1 innings of work. Leo Berger would led the way with three strike outs on the day while throwing 1.1 innings. Game two would also have plenty of offense for the Rangers as they were able to produce seven runs. Peter Fusek would put together an impressive day at the plate, going 2-2 with a double, a RBI, and drawing two walks.

The game would remain a scoreless battle until the fifth inning. In the top of the fifth Carter Storti would send one up the middle for a two RBI single to put the Rangers out in front 2-0. The Hawks would respond in the bottom half of the frame, pushing a run across on a sinlge up the middle. The score would move to 2-1, still in favor of Parkside.

The Rangers would follow up thier fifth inning performance by scoring two more runs in the top of the sixth. Angel Rades would launch a double to center to score Zach Alburg. Peter Fusek would follow two batters later with runners on second and third. Fusek would send a fly ball out to right field allowing Rades to tag, crediting Fusek with the sacrifice fly. The score would swell to 4-1 in favor of the Rangers.
Parkside would continue their offensive showing in the following inning, plating three more runs in the top of the seventh. Angel Rades would show his plate discipline by drawing a walk with the bases loaded to earn the RBI. With just one out, John St. Clair stepped to the plate with the bases still juiced and sent a ball through the leftside to add one more run to the damage. The Rangers would close out their seventh inning scoring frenzy as Benje Hencke reaching on a fielders choice would allow Alburg to cross the plate, making the score a lopsided 7-1.
Rockhurst would add just one run in the bottom of the ninth inning as the Rangers would go on to win 7-2 in dominant fashion.
