SMYRNA, Tenn. — The Parkside softball team came up clutch on Saturday, picking up two wins. The Rangers opened the day with a 4-1 win over Thomas More. Parkside then scored two in the sixth to come back and beat McKendree 3-2.
GAME ONE
Olivia Masnica was dominant in the circle in game one, throwing all seven innings. She allowed just one run on five hits.
Mia Johnson,
Haley Remington, and
Cassie Rutledge all had multi-hit efforts in the win.
Three walks to open the game loaded the bases for Parkside. Remington then laced a single to left, scoring two. The Rangers stranded a pair in the inning but led 2-0 after the opening frame.
Parkside extended their lead to 3-0 in the second when
Logan Sivak earned a homerun the hard way, beating the left fielder and then racing around the bases for the inside-the-park homer.
The Rangers then made it 4-0 in the top of the third when Rutledge doubled to left field, scoring Remington who had doubled in the previous at bat.
Thomas More scored their lone run of the contest in the third. From there Masnica shut the door, facing just one above the minimum over her final four innings of work. She picked up her first win of the season inside the circle, helping the Rangers to the 4-1 win.
GAME TWO
Parkside was under the lights in cold temperatures in game two of the day. Remington went 3-3 in game two, scoring a run.
Rylee Baetz and
Megan Medlin also had multi-hit efforts.
KC Shickel got the start in the circle. She allowed just two earned runs over 4.2 innings of work.
Olivia Fee picked up the win, throwing 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.
McKendree scored the opening run of the night, but Parkside was able to answer in the bottom of the second. With two outs Baetz singled through the left side. Then Medlin ripped a double into left, scoring Baetz.
McKendree grabbed the lead back in the fifth, but Parkside was able to rally in the sixth, with one out Baetz and Remington singled to start the rally. Medlin then singled home a run to tie the game at two. One batter later Emme Ball drove home the go-ahead run with a single.
Fee then worked around a baserunner in the seventh to preserve the 3-2 win.
