Second Half the Difference, Leads to Rangers Loss to the No. 2 Lakers

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Parkside women's basketball team returned to De Simone Arena to square off with the No. 2 Grand Valley State Lakers. The Rangers had a hot first half and would lead at the halftime break but the Lakers would settle into their groove and go on to win 76-63.

Inside the Box Score
  • Sheridan Flauger had her second consecutive 20 point outing on the night. The junior poured in 20 points on 6-11 shooting from beyond the arc. 
  • Lillie Petersen secured 10 rebounds to lead the team on the night.
  • The Rangers put up 63 points against Grand Valley State who entered the game with the second best scoring defense in Division II at 47.8 ppg. 

How it Happened
The Rangers opened the first quarter by hitting their first three point field goal attmepts in the opening three and half minutes. The Rangers would shoot 52.9% from the field in the opening quarter of play and would lead 22-14 at the conclusion of the first quarter. 


Parkside would remain in control in the second quarter, continuing to shoot the ball at a high percentage. The Rangers would shoot 47.1% from the field in the first half of action and go 8-18 from beyond the arc. Sheridan Flauger would score 17 of her 20 points in the first half and help the Rangers build a 41-36 lead over the No. 2 Lakers. 


The Lakers would make half time adjustments and came out in the third quarter to hold the Rangers to shoot just 4-17 from the field, including 0-9 from three point territory. The Lakers would take the lead on a fastbreak layup with 7:16 remaining in the third quarter and never look back.

The Rangers looked to find a way back into the game, cutting the Laker lead to just one point with 6:22 left in the game on a timely Sheridan Flauger three pointer. The Lakers would press on the gas and pull away from the Rangers to win 76-63.
