Kenosha, Wis. - In their first home match in 26 days, the Parkside Rangers and Mariena Coon ran defeated the Purdue Northwest Pride in straight sets. The Rangers out-blocked the Pride 14.0 to 5.0 behind 9 total blocks from Mariena Coon

Inside the box score:

  • As a team, the Rangers collected 14 total blocks, which is seventh most in a three-set match this season in all of Division-II volleyball. For the Rangers, that is the most in a three-set match since September 2nd, 2022 in a victory over Illinois-Springfield.

  • Mariena Coon led the way with 13 points, along with seven kills, three solo blocks, and six assisted blocks.

  • Kendal Zeiter registered another impressive performance, tallying nine kills.

  • Elizabeth Truckenbrod helped lead the offense with eight kills of her own.

How it happened:
The excitement of being back at home was brimming through the arena for the Rangers, as they jumped out to a 5-2 advantage immediately. Kendal Zeiter ignited a big night early, cranking down a pair of early kills. After several Purdue Northwest attacking errors, the Rangers extended their lead to 11-3 just minutes later. As the set progressed, the Rangers found their stride, breaking the set open with a six-point streak to lead 17-7. Kendal Zeiter, Sierra Kilbourn, and Elizabeth Truckenbrod all contributed to the monster run. Mariena Coon finished the set with two straight kills to cap a 25-14 opening set victory.

The second set began as a back-and-forth battle, with the Pride making adjustments to slow down an eager Ranger attack that swung .294 in the first set. As the set reached its midway point, the Rangers began to pull away. Monica Lukasiewicz and Mariena Coon created problems for the Pride in the middle block, securing multiple block-kills as the Rangers earned a 15-11 lead. They rode the momentum all the way to a steady 25-21 set win.

The third and final set began with the same theme, as Elizabeth Truckenbrod and Mariena Coon posted a huge, momentum-driving block. Truckenbrod came alive offensively, notching two of her four kills in the set alone, within the first nine Parkside points. The Rangers jumped out to a 14-11 lead, and a seven-point run pulled the Rangers far ahead of the Pride, 20-11. Both Mariena Coon and Kendal Zeiter came through with three kills each in the final set, aiding the Rangers' offensive attack. The match ended in a fitting way, as Mariena Coon made a tremendous solo block to secure the Parkside victory. The Rangers are now back in the win column, improving their record to 10-14 overall and 6-7 in conference play.
