Rangers Capture Thrilling Overtime Victory Over Minnesota Crookston

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The Parkside men's basketball team traveled to Minnesota for a Saturday morning battle against Minnesota Crookston. The Rangers rode hot shooting en route to a thrilling overtime win over the Golden Eagles for their first victory of the season.

  • The Rangers offense was impressive, shooting 51.1% from the field and 50% from deep.
  • Nick Brown had a phenomenal game, posting a new career high in points with 26. He did so shooting an efficient 9-12 from the field and a near perfect 4-5 from deep.
  • Cameron Mallory was just two rebounds short of grabbing his first double double of the season. The senior finished the day with eight points and a team leading 10 rebounds.
 
How it Happened

The first half opened with both sides trading blows. The Golden Eagles would distance themselves only for a moment, as they would ride a 18-6 run midway through the half to take the 22-15 lead. The Rangers would then catch fire from deep, connecting on five three-point attempts en route to taking a 34-29 lead into the half.
 
Nick Brown would lead the way for the Rangers in the opening half of play with 14 points. Teammate Ethan Ivan would find his stroke from deep, burying three threes in the opening half of play. Ivan would finish the game with 13 points.
 
Turnovers would be the telling story for the Rangers in the second half. Parkside would build themselves an eight point lead with 3:53 remaining in the game 59-51. Minnesota Crookston's stout defense would force the Rangers into four turnovers in the final minutes of the game, while also holding them scoreless. The Golden Eagles would tie things up with a clutch lay up with 42 seconds remaining. Neither side could find the game winner, forcing the game into overtime.
 
The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early lead in the overtime period, nailing a three pointer to give them the 62-59 advantage. Minnesota Crookston would hold the lead all the way up until the final seconds of overtime. With just seconds remaining Rokas Castillo would have the ball dished to him by his brother Matas Castillo. Rokas would launch from deep and nail the three pointer with just two seconds left on the clock. The Golden Eagles had no answer, and the Rangers would seal the victory 64-62.
