Box Score

Big Rapids, MI - The Parkside Rangers had their three-match winning streak snapped after a loss to No. 5 Ferris State on Friday night. Despite a valiant effort from Marisa Lootens and Sierra Kilbourn, who combined for 21 kills, the Rangers were bested in three sets.

Inside the box score:

  • Sierra Kilbourn led the Rangers with 13 kills, swinging an impressive .435.
  • Marisa Lootens registered a season-high nine kills, hitting an efficient .353.
  • Natalie Harris led the defensive effort, recording 14 digs, making it six straight games with at least 14 digs.

How it happened:
The Rangers stormed out of the gates in the opening set, boosting themselves to a 5-2 lead. Elizabeth Truckenbrod got the Rangers started with a kill, and Mariena Coon began a solid night with a pair of kills in that sequence. However, the Bulldogs of Ferris State rallied back, taking six consecutive points to claim their first lead. Despite an impressive first set from Mariena Coon, who notched four kills, the Bulldogs never relinquished the lead and won the first set, 25-20.

The Rangers started the second set in a similar fashion, jumping out to a 5-1 advantage. Sam Fisch had two massive swings resulting in kills. However, just like the first set, the Bulldogs quickly reclaimed the lead and held on for a set two victory. Sierra Kilbourn did all she could, tallying seven kills in the second set, but it was not enough for the Rangers. They lost the set 25-18, as Ferris State hit a remarkable .630 as a team.

In the third set, the Rangers battled hard and even led late in the set. Back-to-back Marisa Lootens kills handed the Rangers a 13-11 lead. Then, Sierra Kilbourn added two straight kills, pushing the lead to 15-13. The set went back and forth, as Lootens provided the tying kill to even the score at 18. The Bulldogs took the lead once they reached the 20-point mark and did not let up, completing a 3-0 sweep over the Rangers and remaining undefeated in the 2024 campaign.
