Rizzitano Nets Goal in Draw Against SVSU

KENOSHA, Wis. – The Parkside women's soccer program continued their homestand on Sunday afternoon in another GLIAC battle. The Rangers took on the Saginaw Valley State Cardinals and earned the 1-1 draw.

"This conference is so solid top to bottom and that seems to show in the number of ties we have right now. We still need to do better in front of goal, but it feels good to get out of the scoring drought. After going down it would have been easy to give in, but we showed grit and determination to equalize right away in the second half. I like the effort we have played with the past three games especially with the amount of injuries going on and think the results we're looking for are on the way," said head coach Brittany Nikolic following the match.

Inside the Box Score
  • Ava Rizzitano's goal marks her second of the season. It also breaks an eight-game scoreless streak for the Rangers.
  • Emily Mikkelson picks up the assist for Rizzitano's goal. The junior now has a team leading two assists and four points on the year.
  • Lola Minic put in another great shift in the net for the Rangers. The freshman continues to impress as she racked up seven saves on the afternoon.

How It Happened
The Rangers offense would come out of the gates hungry, putting up five shots in the first 15 minutes of action. Saginaw Valley State's defense would stand tall, and their success would feed the Cardinal offense as they would notch a goal in the 34th minute of play. The score at the half would sit at 1-0 in favor of the Cardinals.

Parkside would get right to work in the second half of action. Just three minutes into the second half of play, Emily Mikkelson would slot the ball to Ava Rizzitano. She would put the ball in the back of the net break the Rangers 35 day scoreless streak and knot things up a one all.

The Cardinals would push to find the equalizer, but Lola Minic would make several exceptional saves to seal the tie for Parkside as the game would end 1-1.
