Kenosha, Wis. - In their final match of the first half of the conference season, the Rangers were swept by the Wayne State Warriors. The Rangers dropped their fourth consecutive match as they were unable to gain any momentum during the sweep.
Inside the box score:
- Sam Fisch led the Rangers with nine kills and a .368 hitting percentage.
- Kendal Zeiter set a new career high with five kills.
- Mariena Coon added five kills and five assisted blocks.
How it happened:
From the start, it was clear that the Warriors were ready to play, jumping out to an early 7-1 lead. Despite three kills from Sam Fisch and a battle by the Rangers, they were unable to recover from the slow start. The Warriors hit .229 in the set, while the Rangers hit just .070 with eight errors. Wayne State won the opening set 25-18, setting the tone for the rest of the match.
Although the Rangers played their best set of the match in the second, they still couldn't overcome the Warriors. The set was a back-and-forth battle, and after Wayne State took a 21-18 lead, things looked grim for the Rangers. However, kills from Mariena Coon and Kendal Zeiter helped the Rangers even the score at 22. Despite their efforts, the Warriors took the final four points to win the set.
The Rangers were officially swept after dropping the third and final set. The teams were tied at 17 late in the set, but the Warriors went on an 8-2 run to close out the match. With the loss, the Rangers dropped to 7-8 overall and 3-5 in GLIAC play.
