Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Parkside Stumbles Against Grand Valley State

ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Parkside women's basketball team wrapped up their road trip to the western part of Michigan with a game against the Grand Valley State Lakers on Saturday afternoon. The Lakers, one of the top defensive teams in the nation, handed their Rangers their sixth loss of the season, 89-57.

"Disappointing loss at GVSU. We were really tentative for some reason in the first quarter- I thought we did a much better job in the 2nd quarter bouncing back. Defensively, we were making them take the shots we wanted them to, but rebounded poorly. We played much better offensively in the 2nd half, but need to be more consistent on both ends for 40 minutes to get the result that we want. I was really proud on how some of our youngsters played- went on a nice run- thought they battled and showed a lot of fight," said head coach Jen Conely after the loss.

Inside the Box Score
  • Freshmen Cassidy Arni and Lillie Petersen led the way on the offensive end for the Rangers, each with 10 points a piece.
  • The Lakers held the Rangers to shoot 36.5% from the field and 12% from beyond the arc.
  • Chloe Van Zeeland set a new career high for blocks in a game with four.
How it Happened

The Rangers looked to bounce back in the second quarter. They found their footing, able to shoot 40% in the second set of 10 minutes. The Rangers were able to cut the Laker lead down to 13 heading into halftime as Grand Valley State led 34-21.
The third quarter showed offensive fireworks for both sides. The Rangers were able to put up 19 points in the quarter, led by Grace Lomen who would score seven of her nine points on the afternoon in the third quarter. The Lakers however, posted 30 points in the third, highlighted by their hot shooting from beyond the arc. Grand Valley would shoot over 50% from deep, going 6-11. Their lead would swell to 24 with the score at 64-40 heading into the final quarter of the game.
Grand Valley would continue to stay hot from the three point line, shooting an even better 9-13.
