Rangers Fall in Close Battle to the Warriors

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Parkside women's basketball team returned to De Simone Arena for the second half of GLIAC play of the 2023-24 season on Thursday night. The Rangers were looking to go 2-0 against the Warriors in conference play this season, but instead settle for a 1-1 split after a 66-61 loss.

Inside the Box Score
  • Cassidy Arni led the way for the Rangers posting 14 points on the night while shooting 5-6 from the floor and a perfect 3-3 from the charity stripe.
  • The Rangers shot 43.4% from the field on the night.
  • The Rangers struggled from beyond the arc, shooting 4-16 from the three point line.
How it Happened
The first quarter showcased impressive offensive play from both sides. The Rangers would shoot 46.7% from the field in the quarter, but would trail by just one point at the conclusion of the first, 17-16.

The Rangers would continue to shoot well into the second quarter, going 6-12 from the floor. Wayne State would convert their final two shots of the quarter to mount a 36-32 lead heading into halftime.

To open the third quarter Warriors would build out of the 4-0 run they had to end the second quarter stretching their run to 11-0. The Rangers would respond with a run of their own starting with a Cassidy Arni jumper in the paint. The Rangers would go on an 11-0 run of their own capped off by an impressive reverse layup by Paty Gallasova to cut the Warrior lead to 48-46 ahead of the fourth quarter.

Wayne State would open the fourth on a short and quick 7-0 run to cushion their lead to nine points. The Rangers would respond with a 7-0 run of their own and would start trading punches with the Warriors the rest of the fourth quarter. A Gabbi Loiz three pointer with 1:31 left in the game would cut the Warrior lead to just one point, but the Warriors would respond with a three pointer of their own to make it a two possession game with just 25 seconds remaining. It would be enough of a lead to suffice them to the end, as the Rangers couldn't muster a comeback as the final score would end 66-61 in favor of Wayne State.

The Rangers will remain at home on Saturday as they close out this week's play with a date with Saginaw Valley State. Tip off in De Simone Arena is set for 1 p.m. CST and will be broadcast live on FloSports. Coverage information can be found at ParksideRangers.com/coverage.
