KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Rangers returned home to De Simone Arena on Thursday night for a GLIAC match-up with the Michigan Tech Huskies. Parkside's offense continued to shine in an impressive 80-41 victory over MTU.
Inside the Box Score
- Freshman Lillie Petersen led the way for the Rangers. The forward tied her career high with 14 points while going 3-3 from deep on the night and fell one rebound short of a double double with nine.
- Grace Lomen provided impressive support off the bench in the win. The sophomore played in 25 minutes of action while scoring 11 points, pulling down eight rebounds, and racking up a team high four steals. Lomen also shot 5-6 from the floor and hit her only three point attempt of the evening.
- The Rangers defense was stellar in the victory. Parkside held Michigan Tech to just 41 points, their lowest points allowed this season. The Huskies were forced to shoot just 23.9% from the field for the game.
How it Happened
The first quarter of play featured plenty of offense from both sides. The Huskies would start hot, shooting 52.9% from the field in the opening quarter of play. Michigan Tech would grow their lead to four points at the 2:56 mark in the first. Back to back Ranger steals and
Grace Lomen fastbreak layups would bring the score back even at 17-17. The Huskies would go on to score in their final two possessions of the quarter and round out the opening quarter of play with the 22-17 lead.
Parkside would open the second quarter on a quick 10-2 run to retake the lead and would not look back. Senior
Paty Gallasova came alive in the second quarter, scoring seven of her ten points. The Rangers would go on a 9-0 run at the 2:39 mark as a
Grace Lomen buzzer beater would round out the run and the second quarter of play as the Rangers would lead 42-31.
The Rangers would continue to find their stride to open the second half.
Sheridan Flauger would find her footing offensively, as she would open the half scoring six of her ten points in the third. Parkside would go on to outscore Michigan Tech 18-5 in the third quarter. The Huskies would be hounded by the Ranger defense as they would go just 2-18 in the third period of play.
The defensive play continued into the fourth quarter as the Rangers allowed the Huskies to convert one field goal. Parkside's offense continued to fire on all cylinders to grow their lead to 39 points as the final score ended in favor of the Rangers, 80-41.
