9/6/2023 10:30:00 AM

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Parkside women's soccer team opened their 2023 season with a road win this past weekend over Lewis University 2-1. The two goals came from the foot of Alexis Baker and the head of Alexis Bolger. "Overall, I was very pleased with the game at Lewis. We responded to every moment that didn't go our way with positivity and resilience, scored two great goals, made some big plays defensively and manage the final 20 minutes really well while down a player," head coach Brittany Nikolic remarked about the Lewis victory.

The Rangers will look to expand on their winning ways this week as they have two non-conference matchups. First on the docket is Minnesota State University Moorhead. Friday's kickoff from Moorhead, Minn. is set for 4 p.m. CDT. The Rangers will remain in Minnesota as they have a Sunday afternoon matchup against Concordia University, St. Paul. The upcoming matches in Minnesota will be pivotal for the Rangers as they are the last two contests before opening up GLIAC play at Northern Michigan on Sept. 15th. "This weekend we will look to clean up some of our movement on both sides of the ball. These are important matches in preparing us for the conference season and we plan to continue to utilize our depth throughout the team," said Coach Nikolic.

SCOUTING MINNESOTA STATE MOORHEAD

The Dragons opened their 2023 season with two matches, going 1-1. They opened the season at home against Western Colorado, prevailing 2-0. It was MUSM's first season opening victory since 2014. The Dragons went on to drop their second match of the season against Mary University, as an early goal proved pivotal in the match, and the Dragons lost 0-1. MSUM enters with two leading goal scorers with a goal each in Blayke Hurley and Allison Tharp. Minutes have been split between two keepers for the Dragons, as Simone Lewald got the starting nod in the season opening win. Quinn Carter started in the loss at Mary, conceding a goal.

The Rangers and Dragons faced off once in 2009. Parkside rattled off five goals in a shutout of MSUM.

SCOUTING CONCORDIA, ST. PAUL

The Bears opened their 2023 season with two matches, going 1-1 as well. CSP matched up against Upper Iowa to open their season, winning 2-0. They then traveled to Iowa to face off against McKendree (Ill.) which they dropped 0-3. The Bears could not handle the offensive firepower of the Bearcats as they took 15 shots, putting 8 of them on frame. CSP enters Sunday's match with two leading goal scorers in Katie Anderson and Sydney Manthana each with one goal.

This will be the 6th matchup between the two programs. The advantage favors Parkside as they have only lost one matchup back in 2019.
