Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Rangers Downed by Lakers in a 0-1 Decision

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Rangers women's soccer team returned to action on Sunday afternoon after knocking off Davenport on Friday. The Rangers were looking to ride the momentum from Friday's victory into the match where they faced the #22 Grand Valley State Lakers. Despite a solid defensive effort from the Rangers, the Lakers were able to notch a goal and leave Kenosha with a 1-0 victory.

Inside the Box Score
  • Despite going up against the Lakers stout defense, the Rangers were able to fire four shots from Alexis Baker, Alair Posard, Kate Brown, and Emily Mikkelson.
  • The Lakers showcased their offensive firepower, rifling 32 total shots and putting 14 of which on frame.
  • Senior Mia Guyton made Parkside women's soccer history as she now moves into third all time in career saves after a 13 save afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers played majority of the match in their defensive third. Despite this, the Rangers defense only conceded one goal while facing 14 shots on frame. The Lakers goal came early in the second half in the 48th minute of action. The Rangers stayed solid for the remaining 42 minutes of play by not allowing for the Lakers to add any insurance goals.

The most impressive performance came from senior goalkeeper Mia Guyton. Guyton was a brick wall racking up 13 saves in the contest, her most total saves in a match since playing against Ferris State back in 2021 where she gathered 14 saves in the Bulldogs win. Her seventh save on the afternoon officially moved her into third on the all time career save list. Now sitting at 202 career saves, Guyton is now just a mere seven saves from sliding into second place on that list. The top spot is held by Adrianna Bratel with 257. Bratel was the Rangers keeper from 2016-2019.

The Rangers will look to bounce back this upcoming Friday Sept., 29 at Wood Road Field as they'll match up against Saginaw Valley State. The GLIAC action is set to kickoff at 1 p.m. CDT. Tickets, coverage and more can be found at parksiderangers.com.
