Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Rainy Match Ends in Draw for Rangers

HAMMOND, Ind. - The Parkside Rangers men's soccer team battled it out with the Purdue Northwest Pride in a rainy Sunday afternoon match. The rainy and wet GLIAC affair ended 1-1. The Rangers entered the match looking to bounce back after dropping a match at Maryville last weekend. Parkside moves to 2-1-2 on the season while Purdue Northwest remains unbeaten, moving to 3-0-3.

Head coach Jason Zitzke had this to say after the rain ridden affair, "We had to shuffle quite a few guys into various positions in the last weeks. Very pleased with all the guys who stepped up. Our bench has brought a lot of energy."

Inside the Box Score
  • The matches goals were both scored in the second half.
  • Both goals were unassisted.
  • Alejandro Martinez added to his season goal total and now leads the Rangers with three goals on the year.
  • Parkside outshot PNW 14-9 on the afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The scoring got started when the Prides leading scorer, Hugo Lorenzo, got on the board with his sixth goal of the year in the 55th minute of action. The Rangers answered 17 minutes later. In the 72nd minute, Alejandro Martinez finished off a blocked shot by volleying the ball just past the Pride's goalkeeper to equalize the match. Both sides would battle the rest of regulation looking for the game winner. It came to no avail, as both sides leave the match with a point apiece.

The Rangers will return home for more GLIAC action on Friday against St. Cloud State. Kickoff from Wood Road Field is set for 11 a.m. CDT. Ticket information and more can be accessed at rangersathletics.com!
