Rangers Fall to the Saints on the Road

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - After the Rangers fought for a draw against UIS on Thursday, they hit the road to face off against the Maryville Saints this afternoon. Both teams entered the contest undefeated, both at 2-0-1 on the season. Maryville's offensive firepower was to much for Parkside to handle as they were defeated 4-1.

Inside the Box Score
  • The lone Ranger goal was scored by Edgar Heredia Victoria, his first of 2023.
  • The Rangers were out shot on the day 12-3.
  • Of the 3 shots Parkside took, they managed to put 2 of them on frame.

The first half was all Saints as two Saints goals were scored. The first goal pulled the goal keeper off his line and Marcus Kalebo put the ball into the back of the net. The second goal was scored in the 33rd minute after the Rangers were unable to clear the ball out the box on a corner and the Saints finished off the lose ball.

The Rangers looked to pull closer after the Saints committed a foul just outside the 18 yard box. The set piece free kick was placed past the Saints keeper by Edgar Heredia Victoria in the 76th minute for his first goal of the season. Heredia is now tied for the most points on the team with 4.

The Saints offense went on to score two more goals to shut down the Rangers comeback. The Rangers drop their first match of the season and fall to 2-1-1. #10 Maryville reamins undefeated and moves to 3-0-1 in 2023.

The Rangers will be back in action next Sunday as they will open up GLIAC play against Purdue Northwest in Hammond, Ind. Kickoff against the Pride is set for 2 p.m. CDT. Coverage can be found at parksiderangers.com/coverage.
