ASHLAND, OH - The Parkside Rangers traveled to Ashland, Ohio to compete in the Ashland Tournament this weekend. The Rangers took on Central State University in the season debut, and Parkside did not disappoint, blanking the Marauders 3-0.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE:
The Rangers led from the beginning and never looked back. After jumping out to a 10-3 lead in set one, the Marauders were very quickly put in an uncomfortable situation. The Rangers didn't stop putting the pressure on, dominating the set 25-9. Ava Irvin and Marisa Lootens seemed unstoppable as the two combined for ten kills in the opening set.
Set two started and finished in a very similar way. It was once again Irvin and Lootens who were causing fits for the Marauders.
Elizabeth Truckenbrod and
Sierra Marshall provided some help of their own in the service ace department. The Marauders were able to record a couple more points in this set, but at no point made it close. The Rangers once again won with ease, 25-15.
The third and final set started unconventional for the Rangers, falling behind five to nothing. However, it took no time for head coach
Leigh Barea to put her team back in place. With help from
Mariena Coon,
Sam Fisch, and
Karlee Lois, the Rangers jumped back in front in the blink of an eye.
Karlee Lois proved to be the difference, her 26 assists led the game by a significant margin. Set three ended in favor of Parkside, 25-17. It was a 3-0 victory over Central State University in the opening game of the Ashland Tournament for the Parkside Rangers.
