BAY CITY, Mich. - The Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference has released men's soccer preseason predictions ahead of the start of the 2023 season. The Rangers are predicted to finish second in the GLIAC this upcoming season.
The Rangers enter the 2023 season after a historic run to the Sweet Sixteen in the NCAA Tournament. Coach
Jason Zitzke will return 17 players on this year's squad highlighted by senior midfielder
Edgar Heredia Victoria. Heredia Victoria was second in points last year with 11 coming from 4 goals and 3 assists. The Rangers also return the strong defensive presence of
Chris Estrada,
Lars Popp, and
Mario Bolado. The midfielder and two defenders also shined in the final third last season, scoring a combined 7 goals.Â
Just ahead of the Rangers in the predicted standing sits Saginaw Valley. The Cardinals received 5 first place votes out of 6. Parkside received the remaining first place vote. In the two meetings between the programs last season Parkside went 0-1-1. The Rangers will host the Cardinals for the first of the two match ups. Kickoff for that match is on September 19th at 12 pm at Wood Road Field.Â
