KENOSHA, Wis. — Parkside Athletics is pleased to announce that 2019 and 2021 Parkside graduate Amanda Johnson has been appointed as the next Athletics Academic Advisor.
"I am thrilled to welcome Amanda to our staff and back to Parkside," said Director of Athletics Adam Schemm. "It's always a great day when we can bring alumni back to serve our campus and student-athletes. As a former Ranger student-athlete, Amanda knows what it takes to be successful and is dedicated to providing that knowledge to our current Rangers."
"I'm ecstatic to welcome Amanda back to Parkside, but she truly never left," said Senior Associate AD Hayley Treadway. "Amanda has been volunteer coaching, assisting with student-athlete development, and helping to run our cross country course ever since she graduated in Spring 2021, all while working as a full-time educator. When this vacancy occurred, I knew we already had the perfect person for the role. As a product of our community and UW-Parkside, no one knows the Parkside student-athlete experience better.
Johnson returns to Parkside after teaching in the Racine and Kenosha areas for the past two years. Most recently, she served as the Cross-Categorical Special Education Teacher at Indian Trail High School.
"I am thrilled to return to my alma mater," Johnson stated. "I am very eager to work with the student-athletes and to give back to the department that provided me with such a wonderful collegiate experience."
During her studies at Parkside, Johnson completed an academic and compliance internship in the athletic department. As part of her internship, she created a four-year leadership development curriculum for student-athletes, which connected them with career and personal development resources. She also assisted the department in evaluating various learning styles to help guide individual student-athletes.
Johnson was a member of the Ranger Cross Country and Track and Field teams through spring of 2021. She was a GLIAC Academic Excellence Award winner and also earned All-GLIAC recognition for her top finish in the mile. Johnson also served as the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Vice President, where she helped to coordinate various games and events for children in the Kenosha community. Johnson also had the opportunity to participate in the NCAA Emerging Leaders Seminar and the NCAA Leaders in Sports Forum.
In 2019, Johnson received a Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Science from Parkside. She then earned a Master of Sports Management degree from Parkside in 2021 and a Master of Education degree from Carthage College in 2023.
