KENOSHA, Wis. — The Parkside baseball team closed out the 2023 regular season on Saturday, playing two games against the Purdue Northwest Pride. The two teams would split the day, with the Rangers taking game one 7-4 and the Pride taking game two 11-6.
Before the contest, the Rangers honored their nine seniors who played in the final home games of their career Sunday.
GAME ONE
Senior
Chris Conrad picked up the win after allowing just two earned runs and five hits over five innings of work.
Camden Kearney picked up his third save of the season, throwing two shutout innings.
Angel Rades reached base four times in the opener and
Emanuel Andujar Ferreira drove in three.
Parkside struck first, scoring the opening run of the game on a
Ryan Brouch sac fly, scoring Rades. After PNW took the lead with a two-run homer in the second, Parkside answered with three of their own in the third.
A walk preceded three straight hits, including a two-RBI single through the right side by Andujar Ferreira. Parkside then extended their lead to 4-2 when
Noah Tyrrell sharply singled to right. Parkside added another run in the fourth on a wild pitch.
PNW pulled within 5-4 in the fifth when Tyler Nelson hit a two-run homer to left. However Parkside was able to add two insurance runs in the sixth by taking advantage of a PNW throwing error.
Kearney worked around a two-out hit in the seventh to pick up his third save of the season.
GAME TWO
Parkside jumped out to a quick 3–1 lead in the first two innings of game two, with
Andrew Harris and
Patrick Connolly driving in runs.
The big swing of the game came in the top of the fourth with two outs. Jonathan Sabotnik launched a 2-2 pitch over the right field fence with the bases loaded to give the Pride a 5-3 lead.
PNW then extended their lead in the sixth. The Pride plated six runs on five hits and also took advantage of three Parkside errors in the inning.
Parkside was able to pull within 11-6, but was unable to rally further, falling in the regular season finale.
UP NEXT
The Rangers will now prepare for the 2023 GLIAC Tournament, hosted at Jackson Field in Lancing, Michigan. Parkside will take on Wayne St. in the opening round Thursday. Game time is still to be announced. Links to coverage can be found at ParksideRangers.com/coverage
