Rangers Fall to No. 13 Wayne State in the Opening Round of the GLIAC Tournament

LANCING, Mich. ---  The Parkside baseball team opened postseason play on Thursday afternoon at the 2023 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference (GLIAC) Tournament. The Rangers first round opponent was the No. 13 ranked Wayne State Warriors. Parkside Held the lead through six and a half innings, but a three run bottom of the seventh for Wayne St. was the difference, as Parkside fell 6-4.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Jared Heinzen led the offense, going 2-4 with two RBIs.
  • Andrew Harris was 2-4 with an RBI and a run scored.
  • Ryan Brouch went 2-5 with a run scored.
  • Daniel Llanas put together a solid start for Parkside, going four innings while allowing just one run on two hits.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Wayne State struck first, but Parkside was able to scratch one across in the top of the fourth. Max Bruff drew a leadoff walk and worked his way to second base on a wild pitch. One batter later Heinzen ripped a double into left center, scoring Bruff.  
The Warrirors scored one in the bottom of the fifth, but Parkside once again was able to answer in the next half inning. Brouch and Harris singled to get the inning started with one out. Heinzen and Emanuel Andujar Ferreira followed with singles of their own through the left side plating two, giving the Rangers a 3-2 lead.  
Parkside was able to take the lead again in the seventh after Wayne State plated a run on a sac fly in the sixth. With one out Angel Rades drew a walk and advanced to second on a balk. Two batters later Harris served a single into right center, scoring Rades from second.  
The game was decided in the seventh. The Warriors were able to plate three runs on two hits and were aided by one Ranger error.
 
Parkside brought the tying run to the plate in the ninth, but were unable to score, falling by a final score of 6-4.
 
UP NEXT
