KENOSHA, Wis. --- The Parkside baseball team opened a four-game series with the Grand Valley State Lakers on Thursday afternoon at Simmons Field. In a wild offensive game that featured 27 runs and 32 hits, it was
Max Bruff who would launch the game-deciding three-run homer with two outs in the ninth, giving Parkside the 14-13 comeback win.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Bruff played the role of hero on Thursday, going 2-3 with two homers. He drove in five runs and scored four runs. The Parkside offense was in full display, scoring 14 runs on 13 hits.
Angel Rades, Bruff,
Ryan Brouch, and
Reece Homan all had multi-hit efforts.
Grand Valley scored the game's opening run in the top of the first. Parkside quickly answered, scoring an unearned run in the bottom half. The Lakers then grabbed the lead again in the second, scoring four runs on six hits, extending the lead to 5-1.
The Rangers got two runs back in the bottom of the second. Rades came in to score on a
Jared Heinzen triple to center. One pitch later Bruff homered to right, pulling Parkside within 5-4. GVSU extended the lead again in the third, plating two runs on two hits and an error.
Parkside continued to keep pace, scoring two runs on a Homan single to center field scoring
Noah Tyrrell and
Patrick Connolly. Grand Valley added on again in the fourth, scoring two runs on two hits.
The Rangers got a run back in the bottom of the fourth, pulling within 9-7. The run came into score on an
Andrew Harris single down the left field line scoring Heinzen. The Lakers scored single runs in the fifth and sixth innings, building their lead back to 11-7.
Parkside continued to fight back, scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh on a Brouch single through the right side. After GVSU got a run back in the top of the eighth, the Rangers kept fighting, scoring three runs in the bottom half, one coming in on a Brouch single. A wild pitch then pulled within two, and an infield single by
Camden Kearney allowed another run to score, pulling the Rangers within 12-11.
The Lakers scored a run in the top of the ninth to extend the lead to 13-11, but once again the Rangers fought back.
Emanuel Andujar Ferreira led off the ninth with a walk. One out later an error put two runners on. Then with two outs, Bruff launched a 2-1 pitch over the left field fence for the walk-off three-run homer, giving Parkside the 14-13 win.
Sean Sodaro picked up his third win of the season on the hill for the Rangers, working the final inning and two-thirds. He allowed one run on two hits while striking out one.
Maguire Delagrave worked three and a third innings in relief, allowing two earned runs on six hits.
