HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1

The Rangers got the scoring started in the bottom of the first, with Cassie Rutledge hitting a solo home run to deep left field to give the Rangers a 1-0 lead.

Eden Welling kept the offense rolling in the third inning, sending another home run over the left field fence to double the Rangers lead.

A sacrifice fly would help the Panthers find the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning, as Davenport's offense cut the lead to 2-1.

In the top of the seventh, the Panthers found themselves with the tying run on third and the go-ahead run on second. A defensive swing would cause a pop up that found grass down the right field line and scored both runners to give the Panthers their first lead of the game and bring them just three outs from victory.

Meagan Maza got the bottom of the seventh inning started, reaching first safely on a throwing error by the shortstop. Tai Gonzales entered the game to pinch-run for Maza. Kiley Akey moved Gonzales over to second base with a well-executed sacrifice bunt.  Davenport starting pitcher Kelsey Byers struck out Welling and was just one out away from securing the win. Taylor Delgado hit a ground ball up the middle, which was knocked down by the shortstop, but no play could be made as she reached first safely and Gonzales came around to score and force extra innings.

Both teams would go scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings, leading to the decisive tenth inning.

With Taylor Delgado on second, Rutledge hit a short pop towards right field. The ball would land just past the glove of the second baseman, allowing Delgado to come home and claim the victory.

Akey earns the win in the start, pitching the complete game and improving to 9-11 on the year. She allowed just three earned runs, while only throwing 95 pitches over ten innings of work.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
The Rangers offense wasted no time getting started in the back portion of the doubleheader, with Jadynn Powell grounding out to the shortstop and scoring Delgado. Haley Remington singled to center field to score Mia Johnson, giving the Rangers a 2-0 lead. Maza then doubled to right center field, allowing two more runs to come home and score, putting the Rangers ahead 4-0 heading into the second inning.

Welling added two more runs for the Rangers in the third, reaching safely on an error by the catcher. Remington and Powell came around to score on the play. In the fourth inning, Remington hit a sacrifice fly to right field, bringing Logan Sivak home to make it a 7-0 game.

With their backs against the wall, the Panthers found the scoreboard in the sixth inning, scoring three runs and bringing the score to 7-3.

The Rangers responded in the bottom of the sixth, with two runs scoring on an error that allowed Powell to reach first safely. Powell would later score as Akey would reach first safely on another error.

Ellie Curtis picked up her third win of the year, pitching a complete game and earning three strikeouts.

HEAR FROM COACH ORTMAN
"I loved the way we battled today! This team is coming together at the right time of the year, both offensively and defensively. Kiley and Ellie were in complete control on the mound today and our bats were electric all over the lineup. A great day for the program, but the work is not done. On to Grand Valley tomorrow."
