Rangers Drop Series Opener To Wayne State, 8-7

DETROIT — The Parkside baseball team opened the final road series of the regular season on Friday afternoon, taking on the No. 13 ranked Wayne State Warriors. Playing in wet and foggy conditions, the Rangers battled the Warriors all day, but two eighth inning runs for WSU proved to be the difference, downing Parkside 8-7. 
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Max Bruff led the offense with two extra-base hits on the day. He hit his eighth homer of the year, a grand slam, in the top of the sixth. 
  • Emanuel Andujar Ferreira had two hits on the day, including a double. He has now reached base in 15 straight games. 
  • Michael Zordani got the start on the mound and threw two innings of shutout baseball, allowing just one hit. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
Wayne State struck first, scoring four runs on just one hit in the bottom of the third. Parkside got one run back in the following half inning when Joe Prudhom doubled home Noah Tyrrell who was hit by a pitch earlier in the inning. 
 
The Warriors tacked on a run in the bottom of the fourth before Parkside would answer in a big way in the sixth. 
 
Parkside did all their damage with two outs in the inning.  Patrick Connolly got things started with a single through the left side. Three walks and an error followed, pulling Parkside within 5-3 with the bases still loaded. Then Bruff sent the first pitch of his at-bat over the right field fence for the grand slam, giving Parkside a 7-5 lead. 
 
Wayne State was able to rally, scoring one in the seventh and two in the eighth to grab the lead back. Parkside was unable to string hits together in the ninth, falling by an 8-7 final score.
