Softball Celebrates Senior Day Against FSU

Ferris State 5, Parkside 2
Ferris State 3, Parkside 1
The Parkside softball team hosted the Ferris State Bulldogs on Saturday at the Case Softball Complex. The Rangers celebrated their six seniors, Kiley Akey, Dani Evans, Tai Gonzales, Brenna Konstanty, Jadynn Powell, and Alex Wooten as part of Senior Day pregame festivities. The Rangers found themselves in a pair of tightly contested games, but ultimately came up short on both ends of the doubleheader.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
The Rangers got the scoring started in the bottom of the first, with Cassie Rutledge hitting a double and later scoring on an error. Mia Johnson was credited with the run batted in.

The Bulldogs responded in the top of the second, using a multi-hit inning to score a pair of runs to take a 2-1 lead. Johnson earned another RBI to tie the game in the bottom of the third inning with a groundout to the shortstop, bringing home Haley Remington.

A double would plate two more runs for the Bulldogs in the fifth to put them ahead 4-2. An RBI single in the sixth would give Ferris State another insurance run and secure the Game One victory.

Kiley Akey received the loss in her 12th complete game of the season. She falls to 8-10 on the year.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
The Bulldogs found the scoreboard first in the second inning, with two unearned runs scoring after a Parkside fielding error. The Rangers cut the deficit in the bottom of the third, as Taylor Delgado reached first safely on a fielder's choice to score Eden Welling. The Bulldogs would add an insurance run in the fourth as a run scored on a bunt single to make it a 3-1 final.

Ellie Curtis was handed the loss, despite putting up a complete game performance that featured nine strikeouts.
