Rangers Fall Twice To SVSU

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. --- Hitting the road for the second straight weekend, the Parkside baseball team took on the Saginaw Valley State University Cardinals on Saturday afternoon. Two big innings were the difference in game one as SVSU won 12-6. The Cardinals then scored three eighth-inning runs to take game two 6-2.

GAME ONE
Parkside scored in the opening at-bats on the game on a sac fly by Andrew Harris, but the Cardinals had a quick answer, plating four unearned runs on a grand slam with two outs. SVSU extended their lead to 5-1 in the second on another unearned run.

The Rangers got a pair of runs back in the top of the third. It was Harris again getting the job done, scoring Max Bruff and Emanuel Andujar Ferreira on a single.

SVSU kept the offense hot, scoring seven runs over the final four innings. Parkside tried to fight back in the sixth, scoring three runs, including two on a Ryan Brouch double to right center. Ultimately the Rangers would fall by a final score of 12-6.

Angel Rades and Daniel Llanas each had two hits in the opener, while Brouch and Harris each drove in multiple runners.

GAME TWO
Parkside batted as the home team in the second game of the day. After the Cardinals scored in the top of the second, the Rangers answered, scoring one on an RBI double down the left-field line by Llanas.

SVSU retook the lead in the top of the sixth, plating two runs on three straight hits. Parkside got a run back in the bottom half, with Patrick Connolly coming in to score on an RBI groundout by Matt Felske.

The Cardinals added on a pair of insurance runs in the top of the eighth, with two unearned. Parkside threatened in the ninth, loading the bases with two outs, but a popup to short ended the rally.

Noah Gerritson put together a solid performance for the Rangers, going five and a third innings while allowing three runs on seven hits. He struck out seven. Llanas recorded his seventh multi-hit game of the season, going 2-3 with two walks and an RBI.
