Rangers Fall in GLIAC Openers

The Parkside softball team opened GLIAC play with a doubleheader on the road against the Grand Valley State Lakers. It was not the start to conference play that the Rangers were hoping for, as the Lakers had their way offensively and came away with a pair of victories.

HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 1
The Lakers got going right away, scoring a run in the bottom of the first. They proceeded to add another run in the second, two in the fourth, three in the fifth, and another three runs in the sixth inning to force and early end to the first game of the day.
 
The Rangers were held scoreless on just five hits on the contest, compared to the Lakers ten runs on 11 hits. Olivia Masnica is handed the loss and falls to 2-3 on the year.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED – GAME 2
The Lakers got rolling again in the latter half of the doubleheader, scoring three runs in the bottom of the second to jump ahead 3-0. The Rangers answered back in the top of the third with a pair of runs coming off RBI flyouts from Meagan Maza and Megan Medlin. Cassie Rutledge and Rylee Baetz scored on the plays. The Lakers would add one more run in the bottom half of the third to lead 4-2. Grand Valley went on to add another run in the fourth and end the game with a five-run fifth inning.
