Harris's Two Home Runs Not Enough As Parkside Falls to Rockford

KENOSHA, Wis. --- The Parkside baseball team closed out the first home series of the 2023 season on Monday afternoon, playing host to the Rockford University Regents. The Rangers found themselves behind in game one and a rally came up short in an 11-9 loss. Parkside then had the early lead in game two, but Rockford was able to score three in the seventh to come back to defeat the Rangers 4-2.

GAME ONE
Four players registered multi-hit efforts in game one, including home runs by Max Bruff and Andrew Harris. Angel Rades and Daniel Llanas also had extra-base hits in the opener.

Rockford struck first, plating a run on an RBI groundout in the first. Parkside answered back in the fourth, plating two runs on a Rades double to left, scoring Noah Tyrrell and Ryan Brouch. The deciding innings were the fifth and sixth. Rockford plated nine runs over the two innings, including six runs on just three hits in the fifth.

Parkside cut the Regent lead down to 7-4 in the fifth when Llanas drove an RBI double to right center on a 3-2 pitch. Brouch brought home another run when his sharply hit ball hit the pitcher and he won the race to first.

The three insurance runs in the sixth for Rockford were critical. Parkside tried to rally, scoring one on an RBI single by Jared Heinzen. Harris then pulled Parkside within 10-7 when he launched his second homer of the year over the right-field fence. The Rangers then got within 10-9 when Bruff hit a towering homer over the left-field fence.

The Regents added one more insurance run in the seventh, and Parkside was unable to rally, falling 11-9.

GAME TWO
Pitching was on full display early in game two, with Chris Conrad and Rockford starter Aaron Monti going nearly pitch for pitch through the first six innings. The only difference was a fourth-inning solo homer by Harris on an 0-1 pitch over the left center field wall.

Rockford broke through the Parkside pitching in the seventh, scoring three runs on three hits including a double. The Regents then added on an insurance run in the top of the eighth to extend their lead to 4-2.

Parkside got a single run back on a Harris sac fly in the eighth but was unable to rally further. Conrad took the loss, despite working six and third innings and allowing three runs on six hits. Caden Bronkhorst came on in relief and allowed just one run on four hits over two and two-thirds innings of work.
