The Parkside softball team opened their weekend with a doubleheader against the St. Cloud State Huskies and the Concordia-St. Paul Golden Bears. The Rangers got off to a quick start against SCSU, but the Huskies would rally back late in the game and steal the weekend opener away from the Rangers. The Rangers would then drop a hard-fought battle against the CSP, falling again to late inning offense.

HOW IT HAPPENED VS SCSU
The Rangers got on the board first in the top of the second inning with
Jadynn Powell taking a 1-1 pitch over the leftfield wall for her second homerun of the season, giving the Rangers an early 1-0 lead.

The Huskies found their first opportunity to get on the board in the bottom of the fourth, with the bases loaded and one out. The Huskies tied the game when Jasmin Estrada came into score on a throwing error. Parkside starter
Kiley Akey was able to work out to the jam in the inning, and leave the Huskies with only a single run. The Huskies took the lead with the go ahead run scoring on an infield single for Tenley Quesnell.

Akey is handed her third loss of the season, pitching her sixth complete game of the season and earning four strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED VS CSP
The Golden Bears got on the board quickly in the top of the first inning, scoring two runs out of a bases loaded situation. The Rangers answered back in the bottom of the second, with
Haley Remington tripling to right center field on a 1-2 count, scoring
Megan Medlin on the play. An infield single from
Mia Johnson would score Remington on the next play.

The Rangers would take the lead in the bottom of the third, when
Tai Gonzales scored on a wild pitch. The Rangers would lead 3-2 after three innings.

The Golden Bears answered right back in the top of the fourth inning, with Avery Johnson hitting a homerun to left field on the first pitch of the at bat. Johnson's day would not end there, as she would homer again in the sixth inning to give the Bears a 5-3 lead, which would lead to the victory for Concordia-St. Paul.

Olivia Masnica is handed the loss in relief, pitching three inning and allowing two earned runs.

"A disappointing start to the weekend. We played tough in both games, but unfortunately fell on the losing end in both. We'll need to keep the energy up tomorrow as we head into another doubleheader."
