Missouri-St. Louis 85, Parkside 60
The Parkside men's basketball faced off against the Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) Tritons in Indianapolis, Ind. in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Tournament. This was the second time the Rangers met the Tritons this season, as they fell to UMSL in a showdown on New Year's Eve. The Rangers got off to a solid start and ran with the Tritons through the first half, but a white-hot Triton offense would send the Rangers home early from the NCAA Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers got out to a hot start early, with
Josiah Palmer and
Jamir Simpson combining for three three-pointers to give the Rangers a 11-9 lead.

The Tritons got equally as hot from behind the three-point arc, shooting 3-4 in the opening five minutes and taking a 15-13 lead into the first media timeout.

The teams battled through the first ten minutes of the half, keeping the score close with the Rangers holding a slip 20-19 lead. Back-to-back scores for Palmer would give the Rangers a six-point lead. The Tritons climbed right back into the game with a three of their own. A three from
Rasheed Bello put the Rangers up by five with two minutes to play in the half. Back-to-back scoring possessions for the Tritons tied the game with 1:02 to play. The Rangers would end the half with a 37-35 lead. Simpson, Palmer, and Bello all led the team with 11 points.

The Tritons came out of the half strong, taking a brief lead, before Bello bounced back and hit a three to tie the game back up at 45-45. A three for the Tritons would keep them in the driver's seat. The Rangers found themselves down 53-48 with just under 12 minutes to play in the game. The Tritons shot an impressive 10-10 from the field in the opening eight minutes of the second half.

The Rangers quickly found themselves down by nine as the Tritons went on a 5-0 run coming out of an official review. Another 13-0 run would lift the Tritons up to a 73-53 lead with six minutes left to play.
Nick Brown ended the scoring drought for the Rangers with a contested layup. A three from Palmer would bring the deficit down to 15 points late in the game, but the hill would prove to be too much to climb as the Rangers would go on to fall to the Tritons.

A LOOK AT THE STATS
Palmer led the Rangers with 19 points, a rebound, and two assists. Simpson and Bello each finished with 14 points. Bello totaled six rebounds, five assists, two steals, and two blocks. Isaiah Fuller led the Tritons with 26 points. The Tritons shot an electric 71.4% from the field in the second half, outscoring the Rangers 50-23 in the period.

The Rangers hopes of an NCAA title come to an end after an impressive 2022-23 campaign.
