Marquette, Mich. --- The Parkside Men's Basketball team travelled to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan to take on the Northern Michigan Wildcats, who stand in third place in the GLIAC. The Rangers were unable to overcome an early deficit as they would fall to the Wildcats 73-47.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- Jamir Simpson finished with 10 points on 5-12 from the field with one assist, one rebound, and one steal.
- Sanmi Fajana would be the Rangers high scorer in the second half with eight points and finished with a total of 10 points along with two rebounds and shot 2-2 from behind the arc.
- Rasheed Bello finished with eight points, three rebounds, one assist, and one steal.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Wildcats came out hot offensively as they got off to an early 24-12 lead within the first nine minutes in the first half. Although at this point the Rangers had shot just 37.5% from the field compared to the 45.5% of the Wildcats.
With under eight minutes left in the first half, there would defensive battle back and forth as the Rangers offense began to click. Josiah Palmer splashed a three, followed by a reverse layup from Nick Brown. The Rangers would cut the Wildcats lead down to eleven with five minutes left in the first half. With just ten points scored from both teams combined in the final five minutes, the Rangers found themselves trailing 38-25 at the end of the first half.
In the first half, the Rangers had six different individuals on the scoresheet. Simpson lead with eight points on 44% from the field. As a team, the Rangers made one three pointer and shot 39% from the field. The Wildcats had shot 47% from the field and made just two shots from behind the arc.
The second half began just as the first half ended for the Wildcats, as they were able to control the glass as they would out rebound the Rangers 45-24. Northern Michigan would continue to control the game as they would outscore the Rangers 18-5 in the frist ten minutes of the second half.
In the final ten minutes of the game, the Rangers put up 22 points on 27% from the field as they fell to the Northern Michigan Wildcats 73-47.
