Rangers Earn Season Sweep Over Purdue Northwest

The Parkside women's basketball team hosted the Purdue Northwest Pride on Saturday in De Simone Arena. After a back-and-forth first half. The Rangers found a way to pull ahead in the third quarter and used the momentum to earn the season sweep over the Pride.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers and the Pride got off to an even start in the game, with both teams shooting just over 40% in the quarter. Alyssa Nelson got off to a hot start in the opening quarter, scoring 11 points as the Rangers held on to a slim 20-18 lead.
 

The Rangers started the second quarter with a quick score, as Paty Gallasova found Maja Leidefors for a open driving layup. A three from the Pride leveled the game at 24-24. The teams traded points back and forth for the first half of the quarter, as the Rangers led 29-28 with four minutes left until halftime. Back-to-back Ranger fouls led to the Pride taking a 33-29 lead. A three from Sheridan Flauger brought the deficit back within one. Another three for Flauger gave the Rangers a 39-37 lead heading into the half. Nelson led the Rangers with 13 points in the first half. Kayla Bohr ended the half with seven rebounds, while Kendal Zeiter had four blocks.
 

The Rangers got off to a 9-2 run to start the second half. The Pride recovered in the middle of the quarter, cutting the Rangers' lead to just five points.  The Pride cut the deficit to three points, but a layup for Nelson brought the lead right back to five for the Rangers. A technical foul on the Purdue bench allowed for Nelson to sink a pair of free throws. Flauger made a layup right before the end of the quarter to give the Rangers a 63-54 lead.
 

The Pride cut the lead to five to start the fourth quarter, but an and-one for Gallasova extended the lead back to eight. A fast break layup for Flauger put the Rangers up by double digits for the first time in the game. Another basket for Gallasova brought the lead to 12 points. The Rangers built the lead up to 15 as they ran away with the win.
 

A LOOK AT THE STATS
Nelson led the Rangers with 23 points, five rebounds, and two assists. Gallasova ended with 19 points, three rebounds, and five assists. Flauger finished with 18 points, four steals, and three assists. Zeiter finished with 12 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks. Bohr ended with a team-high 11 rebounds. Dash Shaw led the Pride with 25 points.
