Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Rangers Stun No. 5 Bulldogs in De Simone

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Parkside women's basketball team returned to Haribo Court for the tail end of their GLIAC double header weekend on Saturday against Ferris State. The Rangers downed the Bulldogs 79-70 to remain undefeated against ranked teams this season. The Rangers are also now 2-0 in GLIAC play this season.

Head coach Jen Conely had this to say after knocking off no. 5 Ferris State, "Big win against Ferris State! That's a great team that is well coached and is going to win a lot of games. I'm happy for our team to get off to a 2-0 start in the GLIAC. Our squad played solid on both ends; worked together on offense and made extra passes to get great instead of good shots, and also showed a lot of heart and hustle on the defensive side of the ball too. This was a big week for us, to go 3-0 against this type of competition is impressive. I'm proud of our squad and I know that they are determined to continue to improve and gel moving forward."

Inside the Box Score
  • Sheridan Flauger led the team in scoring with 19 points on the afternoon. Flauger also dished out a team high four assists and pulled down seven boards for the Rangers.
  • Gabriela Loiz chipped in 12 points for Parkside.
  • Grace Lomen came off the bench to contribute 10 points, a season high for the sophomore. She also added three assists and two steals.
How it Happened
The Rangers were clicking early as Paty Gallasova hit a three pointer on the Rangers' first possession of the ball game. The Bulldogs would respond with a jumper of there own to kick start a back and forth first period of play. With 52 seconds remaining in the first quarter Sheridan Flauger hit a three pointer to put the Rangers in front 15-14. The score would remain at that scoreline at the end of the first quarter.
Parkside entered the second quarter with the one point lead and looked to extend it. The Rangers would use their three point shooting to help build a lead heading into halftime. UWP knocked down a total of five three pointers in the second quarter alone. The Rangers shot 5-8 from beyond the arc for 62.5% and would head into halftime with the 38-26 lead.
The Bulldogs would come out of the half fighting, mounting a 9-2 run to open up the second half. The Rangers would fight back with a run of their own to close out the third quarter. A Grace Lomen three pointer would close out Parkside's 17-4 run. The Rangers would hold the 60-44 point advantage over the Bulldogs heading into the final quarter of play.
The fourth quarter of action would be the only quarter the Bulldogs would outscore the Rangers. Ferris State outscored Parkside 26-19 but the comeback wasn't enough. A Lillie Petersen three pointer with 1:12 remaining proved to be the dagger, as Ferris State couldn't overcome the deficeit.

The Rangers now have a 10 day break before facing off against Green Bay in an exhibition match up. Tip off is set for 7 p.m. CST.
