Parkside Faces Defeat in Final 2023 Showdown Against Winona

Winona, MN - After a 13 day break, Parkside returned to action for their final game in 2023. They hit the road and took on Winona State University on Sunday afternoon. Parkside was overpowered and defeated 59-44.

Inside the box score:

  • Nick Brown was the only player in double digits, he recorded 13 points on 71% shooting

  • Parkside shot 22% from three-point range, their lowest finish this season

  • Winona outrebounded Parkside 45-21

How it happened:

Right off the bat, Parkside fell behind early and were forced into an uphill battle from the get-go. Nick Brown made his first appearance since 12/9/23, and he got Parkside rolling offensively. Brown had seven of the team's first nine points including a three-pointer.

Parkside remained within arms reach of Winona in the first half, however never had tied the score or taken the lead. It seemed as if every Parkside basket was followed by responses from Winona State. Josiah Palmer was a large reason why Parkside kept the battle close in the first half, he had eight first half points. The halftime buzzer would sound and Winona State took a five-point lead into the half.

The wheels began to fall off the bus in the second half for Parkside. They shot just 27% from the field and 13% from three-point range. The team was held to six points through the first 13-minutes of the second half. Within that span, Winona State opened up their largest lead of the game and rode that momentum to their eighth win of the season. Parkside's record dropped to 6-6 and their non-conference schedule is officially in the books.

Up next:

Parkside's road trip will continue with a trip to Michigan, and it is nothing but conference games for the rest of the way this season. They are slated to take on Saginaw Valley State on Thursday, and Wayne State on Saturday. For coverage of the events, visit ParksideRangers.com/coverage.
