Kenosha, Wis - After a weekend sweep that included defeating a ranked opponent, Parkside swept GLIAC's weekly awards for the first time in program history on Monday. Ava Irvin secured Offensive Player of the Week, Natalie Harris won Defensive Player of the Week, and Karlee Lois was Setter of the Week.
"We are so excited that Karlee, Ava and Natalie were awarded the GLIAC player of the week," remarked Head Coach Leigh Barea. "All three of them had unbelievable performances that led to the results from the weekend. To sweep all three individual awards for the week is a testament to the strength of this team and all the hard work each of them have been putting in."
After securing the honors last week, Irvin rode her hot hand into another brilliant weekend. In Parkside's win over No. 16 Ferris State, she compiled 26 kills and swung at a ridiculous clip of .368. She led the match in that category and this marked her fourth game out of five with at least 20 kills. She followed her magnificent performance with 16 more kills in a three-set win over Saginaw Valley State. Irvin once again led the game in that respect. Irvin is second in total kills, just seven behind the conference lead.
For the second consecutive week, Harris won Defensive Player of the Week. The freshman has been the catalyst on the defensive side for the Rangers all season. Her effort helped lead Parkside to another weekend sweep. In the gut wrenching win over Ferris State, Harris notched 29 digs which led the match. The next day, Harris led the charge once again with 19 more digs. Harris is second in total digs in the conference as it stands today.
For the first time in her time as a Ranger, Lois earned Setter of the Week. The Rangers offense has run through Lois the entire season and this weekend was no different. In Parkside's win on Friday night, Lois tallied 55 assists and was a huge reason the Rangers prevailed against Ferris State. The next day, Karlee registered an impressive 43 assists in just three-sets. Currently, Lois ranks third in assists per set at 9.70 in the conference.
The Rangers will return to action on Tuesday night against Purdue Northwest. Links to coverage can be found at ParksideRangers.com/coverage.
