Five Different Rangers Score in Rout of Purdue Northwest

KENOSHA, Wis. - The Parkside men's soccer team returned home for a big GLIAC battle with Purdue Northwest on a cold and wet Friday afternoon. The Rangers entered the match top of the table in the GLIAC and Purdue Northwest knocking on the door in second. After an impressive offensive showing the Rangers properly defended the first place position in a 5-0 rout of the Pride.

Head coach Jason Zitzke had this to say after the big win, "I thought it was a tough oss at the end of a long road trip last Sunday. This was a great response. We have a couple guys battling injuries right now, so to have guys step up in their absence was huge. Credit goes to assistant coach Ernesto Aguinaga for having us start working on some key offensive tatics this week in practice."

Inside the Box Score
  • Five different Rangers scored in the rout including Tank Anderson whose 70th minute goal counts for his first collegiate goal.
  • Junior Goalkeeper Augustin Warnod got the starting nod in goal this afternoon, netting his first start and shutout as a Ranger.
  • The Rangers defense tallied their third cleansheet of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers got rolling early in this one. First blood was drawn in the second minute of action on the first shot of the game. A rocket shot by Jules Peycelon was saved and spilled by the PNW keeper. Chris Estrada was right there to clean up the mess and put the Rangers on top early 1-0.

The Rangers added to their lead 14 minutes later in the 16th minute when a ball played by Mario Bolado and Matteo Quintero to Edgar Heredia Victoria allowed for Heredia Victoria to go one on one with the keeper and finish to add to the Parkside lead 2-0.

The offensive masterpiece continued in the 24th minute when a handball in the box led to the Rangers being awarded a penalty kick. Senior Mario Bolado stepped up to the spot and converted to finish the first half with a 3-0 lead. Bolado is 2-2 on penalty kick attempts this season.

The second half was no different for the Parkside offensive attack. In the 49th minute Julian Villalobos played a lofted ball into the box for Alejandro Martinez hit one time on a half volley to put the ball into the back of the net and increase the lead to 4-0.

The score was capped off by Tank Anderson. Anderson received a ball into the box after interlinking play between Valentin Sandoval and Jules Peycelon. Anderson one-timed the ball side netting to bring the score to a lopsided 5-0 scoreline.
