Road Success Continues as Rangers Defeat Davenport

The Parkside women's basketball team traveled to Grand Rapids, Mich. looking for the season sweep against the Davenport Panthers. The Rangers got out to a hot start early and rode it to earn their sixth straight win, as well as their ninth straight road victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers got out to a hot start, jumping out to an 13-4 lead with Sheridan Flauger and Alyssa Nelson taking care of the scoring early. Despite a mid-quarter push from the Panthers, the Rangers closed out the quarter on a 16-2 run to lead 29-14 heading into the second quarter. Flauger led the Rangers with 11 points after one quarter. The Green and White were lights out in the opening quarter from behind the three-point line, shooting an impressive 7-8 from distance.



The second quarter brought much of the same for the Rangers, as the drained two more threes and extended their lead to 18 points as they led 45-27 late in the quarter. Nelson took control in the quarter, leading the Rangers with 18 points in the first half. The Rangers went into the half leading 50-31, shooting 56% from the field and 69% from three-point land.



Both teams got off to a slow start in the third quarter, with Davenport outscoring the Rangers 5-3 after the opening 2:30. The Rangers built their lead to as much as 20 points in the quarter, but a late surge from the Panthers brought them back within 15 at the end of the quarter. The Rangers led 61-47, with Nelson, Flauger, and Kayla Bohr leading the way.



The Panthers came out firing in the fourth quarter, going on a 10-5 run and cutting the Ranger lead to nine points. A three from Nelson and a steal and score for Paty Gallasova brought the lead back to 72-57 for the Rangers. The Rangers held their lead all the way to the buzzer to claim the victory and the season sweep over the Panthers.



A LOOK AT THE STATS
Nelson led the Rangers with 31 points, four rebounds, and three assists. She was lights out from the three-point arc, shooting 7-9 on the night, tying her career high for three-point field goals made in a game. Flauger finished with 14 points, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Bohr totaled 12 points, and four rebounds. Gallasova finished with 10 points, five assists, and four rebounds. Courtney Schoenbeck led the Rangers on the boards with nine rebounds. Alexa Kolnytis led the Panthers with 23 points.

Parkside basketball is back in action on Saturday, Jan. 28 as the Rangers travel to Allendale, Mich. to take on the #8 Grand Valley State Lakers at 12 p.m. cst.
