Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Winning Streak Comes to an End as Women's Basketball Falls to #8 Grand Valley State

No. 8 Grand Valley State 75, Parkside 57
The Parkside women's basketball team traveled to Allendale, Mich. looking to take revenge on the Lakers as they lost in an overtime earlier this month. The Rangers gave GVSU a run for their money in the first half but it was all Lakers in the second half to complete the season sweep against Parkside.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Rangers got off to a slow start trailing 7-4 before the first media timeout in the first quarter. Alyssa Nelson then let the scoring begin with a three followed by a back door cut from Kayla Bohr. Parkside was able to get some defensive stops against the Lakers to take the 11-9 lead to end the first. Kendal Zeiter led scoring in the first with four points

Paty Gallasova started off the second quarter with a step back jumper. Both teams struggled to score points and swapped turnovers. Grand Valley Sate was able to move the ball around to hit an open three pointer to take the 19-17 lead. Parkside had responses from Zeiter on the offensive end. From a defensive stopped, Grace Lomen ran in transition where she made the open layup to put Parkside up by four.  Parkside led going into halftime 25-23 shooting 36.7% from the field and 66.7% from the free-throw line.

GVSU was able to get the first eight points of the third quarter taking the lead back before head coach Jen Conely took a timeout. Nelson was able to get open for a shot stopping the Laker bleed. Parkside wasn't able to get much to fall as the Lakers went up by 12. Buckets from Nelson, Zeiter and Bohr helped narrowed the lead down to three points. The Lakers ended the third quarter with a buzzer beater three making it a 52-41 ball game.

Gallasova hit a long three-pointer to cut the lead to 12 before GVSU called their first timeout of the game. The Lakers offense was too much for the Rangers as they out scored 52 to 32 in the second half. Parkside struggled from the field shooting 37%, and just 10% from behind the arch.

A LOOK AT THE STATS
Nelson led the Rangers with 14 points, one rebounds, and one assist. Zeiter finished with 12 points, four rebounds, and two blocks. Gallasova totaled nine points, five rebounds and four assists. Lomen finished with eight points followed by Bohr with seven points and Flauger with five points. Nicole Kamin led the Lakers with 20 points.
