Game 1: Parkside 1, Wayne State 0
Game 2: Wayne State 4, Parkside 1
GAME 1 RECAP
Hits were somewhat of a novelty at the beginning of the game. Through two and a half innings, both teams combined for a hit. Junior Jadynn Powell's double to left center in the top of the first was the lone hit up until the bottom of the third which saw the Warriors produce two singles.
As the game continued, it was clear that today was a game of superb defense by both teams as hits remained scarce. Powell remained hot as she knocked one into right field for a single. Redshirt-senior Kiley Akey, proceeded to dominant on the mound as she only allowed four hits through six innings.
The top of the seventh proved to be where the Rangers would take control of the game. Dani Evans quickly got the Rangers off to a hot start with a double to left center. A foul out allowed Evans to advance to third, and freshman Rylee Baetz's RBI double produced the game's only run.
The Warriors added one more hit in the final half of the inning, but the Rangers defense was just too much today as they wrapped the game up with a road win.
Powell finished 2-for-2 with a walk while Evans went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Baetz had the only RBI in the game as she went 1-for-3. All three had a double on the day. Brenna Konstanty also recorded a hit as she went 1-for-3 as well. Akey pitched a complete-game and allowed five hits.
GAME 2 RECAP
Similar to game one, defense appeared to be the most beneficial for both squads. The Rangers opened up the first inning with a hit from freshman Tia Livernash. Taylor Delgado then smashed a triple into right field during the top of the third, but the Rangers could not cash in.
Redshirt-senior Tijanne Ross commanded the mound early as she only allowed three hits through four innings. The Warriors interrupted her solid outing with two hits in the bottom of the fifth that turned into a run scored.
The top of the sixth is where the Rangers made their mark as Powell drew a walk to lead off the inning. Dani Evans then reached first on a fielder's choice that resulted in Powell being thrown out. Evans then stole second and was then driven in by a Rylee Baetz single.
The Warriors proved to be too much in the bottom of the sixth. A fielding error and a walk set up a three-run home run from Emily Guzzo. This turned out to be the dagger as the Warriors took a 4-1 lead and finished the Rangers off in the seventh.
