Wrestling Moves to 10th in Final NWCA Poll; Three Wrestlers Ranked

KENOSHA, Wis. -- The Parkside Wrestling team came in ranked No. 10 in the final National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) rankings, which came out on Saturday, March 5. The Rangers saw four wrestlers qualify for the championships on March 11-12 this weekend in St. Louis. Mo. 

FULL RANKINGS

The Rangers competed at the NCAA II Super Region Championships on Saturday, Feb. 26, in Moorhead, Minn. Now, the Rangers are headed to the 2022 NCAA Division II National Championships in St. Louis, with three individuals ranked. 

  • Redshirt-junior Shane Gantz remained No. 2 at 165 pounds. He's a perfect 29-0 this season. 
  • Redshirt-senior Joseph Arroyo dropped three spots to No. 7 at 125 pounds. 
  • Redshirt-senior Job Ayala rose two spots to No. 8 at 174 pounds.
  • Unranked Redshirt-freshman Reece Worachek will participate at 184 pounds.

In the final NWCA rankings, Nebraska-Kearney finished with 115 total points, which ranks them first in the poll; their first time being ranked there. Nebraska-Kearney will feature nine National Qualifiers. Central Oklahoma dropped a spot to No. 2, with 111 total points and seven qualifiers. St. Cloud, the 2021 National Champion, finished out in the three-spot with 95 points, and will be represented by seven qualifiers. West Liberty and Indianapolis took the fourth and fifth rankings, respectively.
